The Botanical Gardens has been a tourist and local attraction for as long as Dominicans can remember. After the passage of Hurricane Maria, the Botanical Gardens as we once knew it was destroyed - the shrubbery was battered and almost all the trees were left uprooted.

The Discover Dominica Association and Forestry Division invited the CHS Environmental Club to plant trees in the Gardens on the anniversary of Hurricane Maria. The girls were overjoyed to have a first hand experience of re-beautifying the Botanical Gardens. Each girl learned how to plant a tree properly, and also learned about the species of the tree they were planting.

The experience was a very enlightening one since we got to interact with nature. We hope that we can implement similar projects in our school, community, and country.
