Introducing the 2016-2017 Student Council Executive
A government is a body tasked with the imposing but noble responsibility of guarding and improving the well-being of those it leads. In the quasi-democratic realm of high school it is essential to introduce students both to their civic duty to elect qualified leaders and to the principles of ‘good governance’. Fluid as the term may be, ‘good governance’ is generally characterised by traits such as transparency, responsiveness, equity and accountability.
To lead the student body in this daunting endeavour are the 2016-2017 Head Girl, Elleen Commodore, and Deputy Head Girl, Dinelle Dailey. Both young ladies are enthusiastic leaders and participants in the school community who have shown themselves to be exemplary role models. Together, these two young ladies hope to reinvigorate the Student Council and leave a positive mark on the Convent High School.
All leaders need the support and perspective of a team. Consequently, at the first Student Council meeting held on Monday 10th October, 2016, four executive members were elected: Zoryda Lewis as Recording Secretary, Jaeda Henry as Corresponding Secretary, Schellie Stephen as Treasurer and D’Jana Wyllis as Historian. Together, the Student Council executive members hope to, as Ms Commodore put it, “incorporate fun into our hectic pursuit of academic excellence and create a more vibrant and active student council.”
May the odds be ever in their favor.

Environmental Club plants Corn
Last week, a few students from the Environmental Club, along with advisor Mr. Wiltshire, planted sweet corn adjacent to form 5-D. In recognition of World Food Day, October 17, the students felt the need to play their part in growing what we eat.
In the near future the Club hopes to have a full vegetable garden.
CHS Conducts Historic Online Elections
Third, fourth and fifth form students at the Convent High School etched themselves into the annals of the school’s history today when they participated in the school’s first ever online election of its Head Girl.
Using a Google Form prepared for that purpose, the students were encouraged to use their devices in order to log in their votes.
Four candidates were nominated to the position: Elleen Commodore, Dinelle Dailey, Angelique Dorival and Zoryda Lewis. Three hundred and forty-eight (348) students were eligible, and three hundred and fifteen (315), representing 90.5%, casted their votes.
The results are as follows:
- Elleen Commodore - 221
- Dinelle Dailey - 203
- Angelique Dorival - 93
- Zoryda Lewis - 105
Congratulations are in order to the duly elected Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl respectively, Elleen Commodore and Dinelle Dailey.
The school’s administration is grateful to the staff and students who participated in this singular event at the school.
